Now more than ever it is important to enroll patients in Patient Gateway (PG). Patients can enroll in PG accounts from home to have secure online access to their patient health information whenever they need it, all seamlessly online 24/7.
Use the following scripting when calling a patient who is unenrolled in Patient Gateway:
“I noticed that you are not currently enrolled in Patient Gateway. Your care team has asked that you enroll to ensure you receive the most up-to-date information about your care. I’m happy to help you enroll right now. All we need to do to get you enrolled is to send you a link, and once you click on that link you’ll be taken to the Gateway website. Would you like to receive that via email or text?”
[Follow the steps in the tip sheet and send the link. Continue:]
“Once you click on the link, you’ll be asked to verify your identity, create a user name and password, and accept the terms and conditions. Would you like me to stay on the line and provide assistance while you enroll?”

PG is a convenient, efficient and safe way for patients to manage their health and communicate with their doctors’ offices. There are many benefits to both patients and clinical care teams when patients take advantage of PG, including:
- More convenience for patients
Patient Gateway lets patients manage their own health and access quality health and wellness information at their convenience.
- More health information for patients’ families
Patient Gateway is a medical resource with links to information for patient medications, allergies, immunizations and lab results. Parents, guardians and adult children of elder parents may also take advantage of these features to help coordinate care for children, dependents or elders.
- More ways patients can self-manage their health
Patient Gateway provides an easy way for patients to ask their care teams basic, non-urgent questions using secure electronic messaging and to receive answers without repeated calls. Having convenient summaries of their health information, such as when they are due for preventive tests like mammograms or prostate exams, helps patients be more active partners in maintaining and improving their health.
- More information from doctors
Once a patient enrolls, doctors’ offices will send information to the patient through Patient Gateway (instead of calling, unless that is necessary) such as test results, prescription renewal requests, appointment reminders/changes and even health questionnaires. Patients will receive emails (to the email address provided) whenever their doctors’ offices update information in Patient Gateway.
